Distinguished Chemist George H. Atkinson, founder of the Institute on Science for Global Policy, will be the featured speaker at UNC Asheville's 13th annual S. Dexter Squibb Lecture Series Thursday and Friday, Sept. 16-17.
The University of North Carolina at Asheville announced today a $25,000 grant from Progress Energy to support the university’s joint engineering programs with N.C. State. The grant will be used to purchase lab equipment needed for engineering courses and undergraduate research.
Writer and performer Elisabeth Gray will stage a special performance of her solo show, "Southern (dis)Comfort," at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 9, at UNC Asheville's Belk Theatre. Proceeds from the event will benefit UNC Asheville's scholarship program and Gray's New Umbrella Inc., an Asheville-based multidisciplinary arts organization.
CHAPEL HILL – Thomas W. Ross, President of Davidson College and a former North Carolina Superior Court judge and foundation executive, was today (August 26) unanimously elected president of the 17-campus University of North Carolina during a specially called meeting of the UNC Board of Governors.
This special four-course concentration is designed to bridge the gap between climate scientists and government, business and community organizations whose decisions and work may be impacted by climate change.

UNC Asheville ranked fifth among National Liberal Arts Colleges in “The 2011 Up-and-Comers” list, which highlights schools with “the most promising and innovative changes.”
