October “Writers at Home” Features Poetry Readings

Poets who have honed and developed their work in UNC Asheville’s Great Smokies Writing Program will be featured in the next installment of Writers at Home. The reading, featuring five area poets, will begin at 3 p.m. Sunday, October 16, at Malaprop's Bookstore/Café, 55 Haywood St., downtown Asheville. It is free and open to the public.
UNC Asheville Career and Graduate School Fair Set for October 18

The Career and Graduate School Fair offers a chance to meet local employers and representatives of graduate schools in the region. The fair, sponsored by UNC Asheville’s Career Center, takes place from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18 in the Sherrill Center. The fair is free and open to all degree-seeking college students and college graduates.
Varied and Busy Concert Season for UNC Asheville Music Department

UNC Asheville’s Music Department will present a varied program of concerts on the campus this fall by student musicians with faculty and other special guests. Six performances are scheduled in October, three in November, and the series will conclude with the annual Holiday Concert in December. Admission is $5 at the door for each performance, with students and children free.
WNC High School Students to Explore Health Careers at MAHEC Conference on October 11

Some 500 high school students from across Western North Carolina will explore an array of career opportunities in the fields of health care, health education and more at the 12th annual Health Careers Education Awareness Conference, "Navigating Your Journey to a Health Career," at UNC Asheville's Wilma Sherrill Center on Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2011.

UNC Asheville Fall Art Season Begins with Selected Student Exhibition

UNC Asheville’s Department of Art will begin the new academic year with an exhibit of student art work selected by the Art faculty. The show, featuring more than a dozen works in a variety of media, opens on Wednesday, Aug. 10, and will remain on display through Sept. 6, at the Highsmith University Union Gallery on the campus.
