UNC Asheville Hosts 43rd Annual Juried Student Art Exhibition

The UNC Asheville Art Department will host its 43rd Annual Juried Student Art Exhibition April 16-27 in UNC Asheville’s S. Tucker Cooke Gallery, located on the first floor of Owen Hall. Internationally exhibited artist Nina Katchadourian will serve as juror.UNC Asheville Celebrates Greenfest

UNC Asheville students will go green in celebration of UNC Asheville's semi-annual Greenfest April 9-11. Since its beginning in 1991, Greenfest participants have added more than 500 trees, 14 trails and hundreds of plants to the UNC Asheville campus and the Asheville Botanical Gardens. A series of campuswide projects will bring students, faculty and staff together to take part in a variety of campus environmental projects such as creating a pollinator garden and exotic invasive species removal.UNC Asheville Continues Writers at Home Series with Readings by Students

UNC Asheville's 2009-2010 Writers at Home Series continues with readings by UNC Asheville student authors at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 21, at Malaprop's Bookstore/Café, 55 Haywood St., downtown Asheville. Winners of UNC Asheville’s writing scholarships, including Amanda Gardner, Sally Parrish, Daniel Resner and Beth Sarno, will read from their work. Art Front, UNC Asheville’s student art organization, will hold its annual exhibition in UNC Asheville’s Highsmith University Union Gallery from March 5-29. UNC Asheville Chamber Singers to Perform at White House December 17

While most college students are enjoying winter break and unwinding from final exams, some 25 UNC Asheville student singers are traveling to the performance of a lifetime. UNC Asheville's Chamber Singers, the university's premiere student voice ensemble, has been invited to perform at the White House on December 17. The group will sing for VIP tours at the Holiday Open House.

TheatreUNCA will stage the Michael Slade drama "And a Child Shall Lead" November 18-22 at UNC Asheville's Carol Belk Theatre. Curtain is 8 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday with a 2 p.m. Sunday matinee. All shows are open to the public.
UNC Asheville Student Group to Host Sixth Annual Human Rights Film Festival; Five Documentaries to be Screened, Discussed

UNC Asheville’s Amnesty International Student Chapter will hold its sixth annual Human Rights Film Festival November 9-13. Five films will be shown at 7 p.m. in UNC Asheville’s Highsmith University Union. Each film will be followed by a discussion led by a UNC Asheville professor, student or community member. The festival, which has become the largest of its kind in the Southeast, is free and open to the public.
