Art Front, UNC Asheville's student art organization, together with the UNC Asheville Art Department, presents the 44th Annual Juried Student Exhibition, from April 8 through May 3 at S. Tucker Cooke Gallery, in UNC Asheville's Owen Hall, first floor.
Theatre UNCA will probe political parallels between the 1930s and the present through a satirical comedy, "Reefer Madness: The Musical," with five performances from April 13-17 in UNC Asheville's Carol Belk Theater. Tickets go on sale April 7, with student, senior citizen and general admission pricing.
UNC Asheville's Music Department will wrap up its spring semester concert series with four performances in April, including the annual gala concert featuring UNC Asheville student musicians, and a few surprise guests. Admission for each concert is $5 at the door; free for students with ID.
UNC Asheville's Art Department will hold its 14th annual Soup-and-Salad Bowl Sale from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, March 18, in UNC Asheville's Owen Conference Center. Proceeds from the sale will benefit UNC Asheville's Ceramics Program.
Young scientists from 13 middle schools and nine high schools in Western North Carolina will test their talents in the 12th annual regional Science Olympiad Tournament at UNC Asheville Saturday, March 19. The competition will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at various locations across campus. Each team can field a group of 18 students in a host of science related events, ranging from forensics to food science.
UNC Asheville's undergraduate writing scholarship winners will present their works in poetry and prose in the next installment of UNC Asheville's Writers at Home series. Authors include Brian Hart, Jasper Moore and Caroline Wilson. The reading begins at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 20, at Malaprop's Bookstore/Café, 55 Haywood St., downtown Asheville. It is free and open to the public.
Theatre UNCA will stage Jane Martin’s horror-comedy crossover play, “Flaming Guns of the Purple Sage,” offering three evening performances and a Sunday matinee, February 23-27 at UNC Asheville’s Carol Belk Theater. Tickets go on sale February 17 for all performances, with student, senior citizen and general admission pricing.
