UNC Asheville Celebrates International Education Week—"Bridge the Gap Host" Chris Bashinelli to Deliver Keynote

Chris Bashinelli, traveling public TV host, will provide the keynote address as UNC Asheville presents a series of International Education Week events from Nov. 11-15. International Education Week promotes programs that prepare Americans for a global environment, and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and exchange experiences in the United States. The week is a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education.
UNC Asheville’s International Education Week includes some special activities for students; the following events are free and open to the public on Wednesday, Nov. 13:
- African Drum performance: The UNC Asheville African Drum Ensemble recently traveled to Ghana to study with the internationally renowned Ghana Dance Ensemble. They will perform at 12:30 p.m. in Mills Plaza, outside Mills Residence Hall.
- International Non-Profit/NGO Career Panel: Professionals with experience at World Camp, Groundswell International, Habitat for Humanity and Save the Children will host a “lunch and learn” panel discussion regarding careers with international non-profits and NGOs at 12 p.m. in Brown Hall, Private Dining Room 100. Moderated by Dr. Surain Subramaniam, Director of Interdisciplinary Studies, International Studies, and Asian Studies
- Inspiring Action: Bridging the Gap by Chris Bashinelli: Chris Bashinelli is executive producer and host of Bridge the Gap, a program airing on PBS in which Bashinelli travels the globe to experience life in unfamiliar cultures. Recent episodes include journeys to Haiti, Uganda and the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. A 26-year-old, Bashinelli also is a National Geographic Young Explorer grantee and TEDx speaker, and has delivered keynotes at global conferences for the United Nations.
