An afternoon of big band jazz is in store when UNC Asheville students, joined by guest soloist Paul Babelay, perform at 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb.20, in Lipinsky Auditorium on the campus. The Studio 18 Vocal Jazz Ensemble, directed by Melodie Galloway will also be featured.
Babelay, a vibraphonist and percussionist, will solo with the UNC Asheville Big Band, under the direction of Rich Willey, performing several classics including "Blues in the Night" and "Blue Skies."
Babelay has performed in diverse musical settings, including collaborations with blues guitarist Will Ray, comedians Martin Short and Don Rickles, and contemporary Christian singer Darlene Zschech. His first CD, “My Vibe,” will be released this spring.
Admission for the concert is $5 at the door, and free for students with ID. For more information, see the UNC Asheville’s Music Department Web site, or call 828.251.6432.
