Smith Barney Intergenerational Computer Mentoring Program

 

The NC Center for Creative Retirement at UNCA is proud to offer the Smith Barney Intergenerational Computer Mentoring Program.

Supported by a grant from the Smith Barney/Citigroup Foundation, this Free program is offered for underserved, low to moderate income, and minority older adults twice a year in the spring and fall school terms.

The goal of the program is to teach basics computers skills such as how to use e-mail, navigating the Internet and word processing. Classes are taught by skilled UNC Asheville undergraduates who are trained and supervised by campus experts and assisted by skilled volunteer Center Mentors. More than 550 seniors have participated in the computer mentor courses.

What Can I Expect?

  • 12 people per class
  • 5 weeks of classes
  • Taught by 3 undergraduate UNCA students supported by NCCCR volunteers, which means lots of individual attention.
  • Beginner classes learn the basics of Internet, Email and Microsoft Word.
  • Advanced Beginner Classes learn the same topics as the beginner class much quicker and in greater detail.
  • Advanced Special Topics classes learn the same topics but in greater detail plus Power Point & Excel and other topics suggested by participants.
  • Have a lot of fun!
When and Where? Classes meet at the NC Center for Creative Retirement (Reuter Center) on the UNC Asheville campus.

How Do I Apply?

All are welcome to apply, but due to limited space, preference will be given to individuals that are over 50 year of age, underserved, minority and low-income. NCCCR membership is not required.
