September 25 Housing Options For The Next Stage Of Your Life - Marcia Tuttle

An instructor at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Duke University Ms. Tuttle will discuss and answer questions concerning Continuing Care Communities such as housing options, financial and legal requirements, medical and health considerations, differing levels of care and other issues that may affect your decision with respect to this topic.

October 2 United Arab Emirates Today – Larry Wilson

Dr. Larry Wilson, former UNC Asheville Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, and 1996 Interim Chancellor will give a presentation on his experiences in the United Arab Emirates. Dr. Wilson served as a consultant to design and create a new university for Emerati women students.

October 9 Focus on Healthy Eyes - Katherine Volatile

Dr. Volatile discusses how to maintain healthy eyes with information as to maintaining diet, exercise and limiting certain environmental exposures.

October 16 Giving Well: Information and Inspiration – Sheryl Aikman

Most of us make financial contributions to the causes we care about. In times that are challenging for both donors and charities, giving wisely takes on new importance. Sheryl Aikman, vice president of development at The Community Foundation of Western North Carolina, together with other staff and donors, shares giving strategies, ways to strengthen the impact of your contributions, and inspiring stories of making a difference.

October 23 Is Your "BALANCE" Sheet in Order for Your New "PHYSICAL" Year? - Ellen Garrison

Dr. Garrison will present an engaging and interactive lecture on comprehensive fitness principles including balance, strength, and flexibility. Components will include attention to your feet during exercise.

October 30 SPECIAL GUEST:  Minniejean Brown Trickey

Ms.Trickey is one of the famous "Little Rock Nine" who integrated Little Rock’s Central High School in 1957 and a recipient of the Congressional Medal of Freedom, and someone who played a major role in the expansion of civil rights in America.  She is one of our genuine heroes, especially for what she endured in a very hostile school environment when she was but a young girl.  

November 6 Vancouver and the 2010 Winter Olympics – Hal Davis

Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada is already a world-class city destination for business, living and tourism. In February 2010, Vancouver will enhance its stature even more when it hosts the 2010 Winter Olympics at venues in the city and the Whistler/Blackcomb ski resort two hours north. Hal Davis, western Canadian born, raised, and educated will discuss the city’s history, geography and attractions, and the planned 2010 Winter Olympics program.

November 13 Our Daily Meds – Ed Hamlin

Over the past few decades the pharmaceutical industry has exerted a stranglehold over medical practice in the United States contributing to the current health care crisis confronting us. In this workshop, Dr. Ed Hamlin, clinical psychologist at the Pisgah Institute and Center for Advancement of Human Potential, will examine some of these influences and their consequences, and discuss strategies for how to take charge of our own health.
