Fitness Expo |
As an employee of UNC Asheville,
you have access to a myriad of FREE facilities,
programs, and supports to help you meet your fitness
goals. To find out more about the benefits
available to you, plan to join your friends and
colleagues for the Fitness Center Expo on September 10.
Participants will enjoy free smoothies, healthy snacks,
and tours of the Fitness Center. Reservations are

Supermarket Strategies |
Janet Zusi, UNC Asheville Dining
Services Dietitian, will
take you on a trip down the supermarket aisle to help
you shop your way to better health. This “hands on”
workshop will teach you how to avoid marketing traps and
make wise choices within your budget. She is asking all
participants to bring their recent shopping receipts to
help determine where you need to improve your shopping
skills. |

Smoking Cessation |
4 Offerings. In
light of the new limitations for health plan options for
smokers scheduled to begin July 1, 2010, the UNC
Asheville Workplace Wellness program will sponsor four
free smoking cessations workshops here on campus
facilitated by Donna Borowski of Mission Health
Services. Learn about proven strategies and existing
community/workplace resources to help you kick the
habit. |

Conquering Emotional
Eating |
This workshop
is presented by the Employee Assistance Network.
Emotional eating contributes not only to weight gain,
but also impacts our general health and well being.
This workshop provides participants with information on
the factors that contribute to emotional eating and
provides practical ways to help manage emotions and
prevent emotional eating. This workshop fits in well
with lunch and learn seminars and wellness programs. |

Surviving the Holidays: Maintaining a Healthy Diet |
The average American experiences a weight
gain during the holiday season from Thanksgiving through
the New Year, and this weight is rarely lost even with
New Years’ resolutions. Janet Zusi, UNC
Asheville Dining Services Dietitian, will provide strategies for ‘MAINTAINING’
weight during this high risk season without giving up
holiday fun and family traditions. |

Fast Food: The Good, The Bad and the Ugly |
We all find ourselves at the fast food
counter at some time, whether on the road or at the
local mall. A stop at Wendy’s or Taco Bell does not
have to be a nutritional disaster. Janet Zusi,
UNC Asheville Dining Services Dietitian, will examine some of the local
fast food restaurants and identify the “best” and
“worst”. |

Hot Topics/Nutritional Myths |
Nutrition is an ever changing science
with new evidence-based research coming out all the
time. Janet Zusi,UNC Asheville Dining
Services Dietitian, will provide an
up-to-date review of recent findings that are relevant
to the general population. She will also clear up some
of the “misinformation” that is so easy to find and
disseminate on the internet. |

Cooking Light Demonstration |
The chefs from UNC Asheville's dining
services will provide a ‘hands-on’ cooking demo on
easy-to-prepare, low-fat recipes. They will also answer
any cooking questions you may have. Janet Zusi,
UNC Asheville Dining Services Dietitian, will feature side dishes to add to
the chefs' creations to make the meals nutritionally
complete. Participants are encouraged to bring their
favorite recipes for analysis and possible ingredient
substitutions. |
