Bounty Shared Meal; Informed Consumerism is the Focus of
Classes:
In this
UNC Asheville chemistry class, mixing bowls and measuring
spoons have replaced beakers and Bunsen burners. The
introductory science course is part of the University's
innovative "Food for Thought" cluster of classes, focusing
on food information, consumerism, nutrition and health
through courses in chemistry, biology, economics, sociology
and health and wellness.

Events This Fall; Phyllis Lang to Discuss Life of Daniel
Boone Oct. 26, Robert Morgan to Speak Nov. 14:
In
conjunction with the regional "Together We Read" program on
Robert Morgan's book "Boone," UNC Asheville will host two
special events this fall celebrating the book as well as the
life of Daniel Boone. Events include a talk by nationally
acclaimed author Robert Morgan and a discussion of Boone
history. Both are free and open to the public.

Art Professor Virginia Derryberry Holds Solo Exhibition at
Virginia Arts Center: Virginia
Derryberry, a noted painter and UNC Asheville art professor,
will hold a solo exhibition of recent work at the William
King Regional Arts Center in Abingdon, Va. "Rebis: New
Paintings by Virginia Derryberry" will be on view September
19-February 1. An opening reception will be held 6-8 p.m.
Friday, Sept. 19, in the gallery.

License Plates: The Alumni Office,
in partnership with NC DMV, is pleased to offer the official
UNC Asheville North Carolina license plate. The cost is just
$25 per year (in addition to the regular plate fees). A
personalized option is also available. Fifteen dollars of
the fee is returned to UNC Asheville annually to support
alumni programs. Be one of the first people to have the new
plate! The Alumni Office must collect the fee for the first
300 applications before the DMV will print the plates. For

Office is pleased to announce its partnership with Bank of
America for affinity credit card services. Through this
partnership, alumni and friends can apply for a special

UNC Asheville's Professional Education Programs Office
will offer "Compilation and Review Engagement Essentials," a
continuing education program for professional accountants.
The class will meet 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7, at the
North Carolina Arboretum. Accounts who attend the program
will qualify for eight hours of Continuing Professional
Education credit.

Season; Five Concerts Set for October:
UNC Asheville's Music Department will continue its fall
concert season with five performances in October, ranging
from jazz to chamber music. The concerts feature student
musicians under the direction of University faculty. Tickets
are $5 general admission at the door.

View Through October 21 at S. Tucker Cooke Gallery:
Some 58 handmade prints created by women from
around the world will be on view through October 21 at UNC
Asheville's S. Tucker Cooke Gallery. The show features
limited edition fine art prints from two international
women's print portfolio exchanges, "The Birth Project" and
"Women's Work." The prints are on loan to the gallery from
printmaker and exchange participant Kore Loy
Wildrekinde-McWhirter.
